Ryan Gosling arrived in Remember the Titans and The Notebook, but many still needed convincing. He squashed the doubters with Half Nelson, Lars & The Real Girl and Blue Valentine. Then in 2011, he earned Golden Globe nods as the cocky bachelor in Crazy Stupid Love and the campaign staffer in The Ides of March, while scorching the screen as the Hollywood stuntman moonlighting as a getaway driver in Drive. The film mixed mainstream violence with arthouse style to create a silent but deadly masterpiece, which we may one day compare to Taxi Driver as polarizing classics snubbed by Oscar.

Best Supporting Actor: Christopher Plummer (Beginners)  Jonah Hill (Moneyball)

Best Supporting Actress: Octavia Spencer (The Help)

Best Original Screenplay: Midnight in Paris (Woody Allen)
